Visit Europe's first star village with planetarium, observatory and planetary trail on a journey of discovery through our solar system.
The "astrovillage" project
The stars within your reach. Not far from our Hotel Oberwirt in Collepietra, you have the extraordinary opportunity to visit Europe's first star village.
On the Val d’Ega plateau, the stars, represented by "star thalers", seem truly within reach. The nearby planetarium and the "Max Valier" astronomical observatory in Gummer invite you on a journey of discovery through the universe. To conclude, you can walk the 7 km planetary trail, which crosses picturesque landscapes and offers informative panels about the solar system.
Starry moments everywhere. Our Hotel Oberwirt in Collepietra is the ideal starting point to learn about and explore the astrovillage. The nearby planetarium, Max Valier observatory, and Peter Anich solar observatory in Gummer invite you on a cosmic adventure. The planetary trail brings the planets and vast distances of the solar system down to earth.
Astronomical and solar observatory
The Max Valier astronomical observatory is the only one of its kind in all of South Tyrol. Its jewel, the Cassegrain mirror telescope, allows for a direct and clear view of the moon and stars. At the Peter Anich solar observatory, the focus is on our closest star: the sun. Guided tours are held year-round every Thursday evening (open to all, reservation required) and Friday evening (for private groups).
